The celebrations will start after 11.30am Mass at St Peter’s, there will be no Mass at St Columba’s on the Sunday morning.

Shared Table.

As part of our parish celebration, we will be having a shared 'Food' table. As we are a parish of many nationalities it would be lovely if you could make some food of your nationality and share this at our table for all to enjoy. Of course, if you wish to buy something, that would be lovely too. A list will be available at the back of both churches for you to sign up. Just place your name and an idea of what you would like to bring.

Good as New / Tombola Stall.

If you have any items which you would like to donate for our Good as New /  Tombola Stall, a box will be available at the back of both churches for you to place items. Could we please ask that no books or clothing are donated.

If you would like to donate towards our bottle stall. Items can be left at the presbytery at St. Columba's, or given to Alan at St. Peter's. Thank you.

FINAL REPORT FROM IICSA PUBLISHED TODAY

Diocese of Leeds

The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse has published its final report.

In order to respond to the work and demands of the Inquiry, the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales and Conference of Religious for England and Wales created a Catholic Council to assist the Inquiry in its work. Chaired by Baroness Nuala O’Loan DBE, the Council assisted in directing the Inquiry to the relevant Church entities and bodies so that the fullest response to its questions and requests could be made. The Catholic Council was granted core participant status in the hearings relating to the Catholic Church.

The Catholic Council has published the following statement in support of the Catholic Church in England and Wales’ continuing commitment to the work of safeguarding those with whom we work and come into contact: Please click the link below

Gas contract renewal prices. IFM Ref 3065, St Peter's Parish
Dear Father,
I am writing to you with news on the price of the gas contract which comes into effect from 1 October 2022. It will not be news that there is a significant increase in the kWh cost, as market conditions remain challenging as has been widely reported over recent months without any indication that this is likely to improve in the short term. With this in mind, the contract has been renewed for two years at a rate of 11.889p/kWh for six months reducing to 9.682p/kWh for the 18 months thereafter, which is an average rate of 10.24p across the two year period. As with previous contracts, there are no standing charges and any VAT due will be met by IFM. This, at least, gives certainty across the next two years even if it has not been possible to secure a contract on the same favourable terms as previously.
Support for non-domestic energy users
The contract which IFM enters into is for commercial, not domestic, supply as the size of the consumption by each diocese as a legal entity places it into commercial pricing. In her speech on 8 September, the Prime Minister announced a new six-month scheme for businesses and other non-domestic energy users (including charities and public sector organisations like schools) will be offered support as is being provided for consumers. After this initial six-month scheme, the Government will provide ongoing focused support for vulnerable industries. There will be a review in three months’ time to consider where this should be targeted to make sure those most in need get support. Details have not yet been published however this may well have been delayed by the death of Queen Elizabeth II. As soon as these details are available they will be shared with you.
£400 energy bills discount to support households this winter
As your meters are classed as a commercial, not domestic, supply they do not qualify for the energy bills discount notwithstanding that they may be for domestic premises such as presbyteries. Over recent months I have been part of a group which has been lobbying Parliament to ensure that such meters are included, as this is a widespread issue affecting people living in sheltered housing complexes, university accommodation and some social housing, as well as clergy of all denominations. It had been hoped that this would be part of the Government announcements in recent weeks, however we still await further information on the proposals to see if this has been included.
Green gas
This contract is for the supply of green gas plus carbon-offsetting for the balance, continuing our commitment to Laudato Si. Whilst ‘brown’ gas does not carry the green premium, the amounts involved were very low compared to the overall cost and indeed were no more than had been paid under previous contracts.
If you have any queries on the above or indeed any other matter, please do contact IFM who are always happy to help.
Kind regards
Carol Lawrence

Book and Tree of Remembrance

At St. Peter's, we have created a tree of remembrance for all those who have died within our parish. In this way, we remember our loved ones who have died, especially during the pandemic.

The idea is that you write the name of a loved one on a heart, and place it on the tree.

Our book of remembrance lists the names of all those who have died, and are buried in the grounds of the Old St Mary's Chapel Cemetery,  Scott Hill Bradford, (Site of the former St Mary's School) and those buried in the Catholic Cemetery, Leeds Rd, behind the present day St. Peter and St. Mary's School.

We commit all those who have died into the loving hands of God.
